What is butylene glycol?

Butylene glycol is a chemical ingredient commonly used in beauty and skincare products as a solvent - to dissolve other ingredients and prevent your creams from being lumpy. It also is a good moisturizer, acting as a moisture barrier. Butylene glycol is a type of alcohol,  often made from distilled corn.

What is it best for? 

Butylene glycol is an ingredient best used in anti-aging creams, lotions, and ointments. In addition to making the texture of these products smoother and easier to rub into the skin, it acts as a moisturizer, protecting and repairing daily damage to the skin.

What is the drawback?

There is some controversy over whether butylene glycol is a good choice for daily skincare products. In some cases, this ingredient is reported to clog pores and make acne appear worse.  It can also be irritating or cause rashes for people with sensitive skin
